SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - Chris Waller is likely to split his Warwick
Stakes trifecta-winning team between Sydney and Melbourne next
weekend.
Waller plans to nominate Metal Bender and Danleigh for the
Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington as well as the Chelmsford
Stakes at Randwick, both 1600-metre weight-for-age races at
Group Two level.
Triple Honour, who divided Metal Bender and Danleigh in the
Warwick Stakes, will be a definite Chelmsford runner.
"Metal Bender and Danleigh will both be nominated for the Makybe
Diva but at this stage there is no decision on whether either
will go south," Waller said.
"Triple Honour, Metal Bender and Danleigh all worked the reverse
way of going at Rosehill this week and handled it well.
"The attraction for Danleigh to go to Melbourne is that there is
likely to be at least a dead track."
Waller has sounded out the availability of jockeys for Danleigh
in Melbourne but no decision has been made.
"Hugh Bowman is riding in Sydney and Damien Oliver is booked for
Heart Of Dreams," Waller said.
Metal Bender, Triple Honour and Danleigh have all won Group One
races for Waller, helping cement his place as one of the
country's leading trainers.
Pressday gave the trainer his first juvenile Group One victory
when he took out the TJ Smith Classic (1600m) in June.
The newly turned three-year-old is back in full training but a
Caulfield Guineas campaign has been ruled out with Waller to
concentrate on his sprinting ability.
"Pressday will be set for the Coolmore Stakes during Melbourne
Cup week," Waller said.
"He is explosive and we want to be able to use that trait so he
won't go to the Guineas.
"The plan is to either run in the Roman Consul or the Brian
Crowley Stakes in Sydney two weeks later and then he will go to
the Coolmore at his second start (back)."
The Group Two Roman Consul Stakes is at Randwick on October 2
and the Group One Coolmore is over the 1200m straight course at
Flemington four weeks later.
Metal Bender and Triple Honour have both been entered for the
Cox Plate and Caulfield and Melbourne Cups while the George Main
Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 25 is a Group One target
for Danleigh.
