Thousand Guineas next for Angel

By Mark Ryan

MELBOURNE, Aug 28 AAP - Trainer Andrew Noblet described Sistine Angel as the "nicest" horse he has bought after she broke her maiden status with an upset win in the Group Three McNeil Stakes at Caulfield.

Noblet is aiming Sistine Angel for the Thousand Guineas after Saturday's win at her fourth start.

"It was a hard task first-up and she came back from her last preparation very well. It was a great effort," he said.

"She's still got a bit of improvement in her. Her coat has to come through yet and hopefully she progresses well.

"I'm glad we couldn't run her at Moonee Valley last week because she got an infection in her leg and we've landed here in a hot race and got the money.

"She surprised me how well she went first-up but she's a nice horse who is going to go a long way."

Caulfield-based Noblet landed his best win since his career high to date with Lilando in the 2004 Group Two Caulfield Sprint (1200m).

Noblet paid $60,000 for Testa Rossa filly Sistine Angel at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

The filly is from the same family as Group Two QTC Cup winner Gallopini and Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes winner Land Speed Record.

Noblet said he goes to the Perth sale every year and has won lesser races in Melbourne with Turing and Tarp who were also bought there.

After Saturday's 1200m win Sistine Angel was equal second pick at $11 with the impressive Sydney filly Parables ($7.50 fav) with TAB Sportsbet for the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13.

"I was a bit worried before the race because they weren't making a lot of ground in the earlier races but it just goes to show how well she is going," Noblet said.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Sistine Angel ($15) settled last of the 10 runners and was still at the rear at the 400m before unleashing a powerful sprint in the slow going to score by a head from Servant ($13) with Intencion ($51) a half-length away third.

"We'll probably wait three weeks for the Thousand Guineas Prelude and go from there," Noblet said.
