BRISBANE, Aug 27 AAP - Trainer David Kelly is hopeful last
month's Ramornie Handicap form will stand up again when talented
mare Kryptelon tackles The Plough Inn Tavern Handicap at Doomben
on Saturday.
Kelly rated the six-year-old unlucky when she finished a close
fifth last start to the Peter Snowden-trained Pinwheel in the
Grafton feature on July 14.
"Even Peter Snowden said my mare was unlucky and I thought she
should have finished in the first two," Kelly said.
"She was held up for a run from the top of the straight until
the last 100 metres and by the time she got out it was too late.
"She got beaten just over one length and the form out of the
Ramornie has stood up since with Forestreno winning in
Brisbane."
Veteran campaigner Forestreno was runner-up in the Ramornie
before finishing second at Eagle Farm and then winning at
Doomben earlier this month.
Kelly is not concerned about promising filly Ringa Ringa Rosie
making her comeback against Kryptelon.
"I think I've got the best horse in the race and it doesn't
worry me Ringa Ringa Rosie is there," he said.
Ringa Ringa Rosie is having her first start start since
finishing second to Pressday in the Group One TJ Smith (1600m)
at Eagle Farm in June.
Trainer Bevan Laming has big plans in mind for Ringa Ringa Rosie
in Melbourne with the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield
and Group One VRC Oaks at Flemington on her spring agenda.
Kelly had contemplated a Sydney trip with Kryptelon but decided
to stay at home to chase fillies and mares races in the coming
months.
"I thought about sending her to Sydney but she's not a good
traveller," he said.
"She's normally a good doer but she was off her feed for a few
days when I took her down for the Ramornie.
"There's some fillies and mares races coming up in Brisbane
worth $100,000 so we've decided to stay at home.
"It would be nice to give her a chance in Sydney but little fish
are just as sweet."
